AVM Cannon Street Demo Suite upgraded to High Definition

AVM have integrated Polycom HD Videoconferencing and Blue Ray DVD as well as a 42" LCD true 1080p digital screen. This system will allow AVM to demonstrate High Definition in its full glory at its offices in the City of London - 76 Cannon Street, EC4N 6AE.

High Definition (HD) is a television format that offers higher definition and clarity than standard broadcasting. High Definition Television (HDTV) offers a much better picture quality and sharpness.

Colours are richer and more natural and realistic, the picture is less blurred and motion is smoother. This makes watching HDTV a much more real to life experience, almost like being there to watch the real thing.

Full HD displays a native 16:9 ratio screen resolution of 1920 pixels by 1080 lines opposed to the Standard Definition (SD) which is broadcasted in PAL at 768 pixels by 576 lines. This makes HD far clearer and more detailed than SD.

Digital displays can be either progressive or interlaced scan. The interlaced system provides a good picture quality but is built up from two scans, the first displays every other line and the second fills in the gaps left by the first. The progressive system doesn't split the picture into two separate fields; the image is drawn from top to bottom in order and in a single scan, producing a much clearer and better quality image.

1080p (full High Definition) boasts 1920x1080 pixels as does HD, but is delivered progressively (1080i relates to HD delivered in interlaced scan). Therefore, 1080p is the highest quality television format money can buy.
